Self-Portrait (Performance)

Self-Portrait (Downtown Chicago), 2022, Performance, 01:23:29

This is the most inappropriate self-portrait. I put myself and the mirror on the bustling streets of the city of Chicago, using palette knives and paints to describe my face. I am making this private emotional experience completely public. In the illusion of being watched, I seemed to be pushed to the opposite of the whole world. My act of focusing only on myself creates a strong contrast with the function and form of the street, which arouses the viewer's question: why is "me" so important? I hope this performance art can trigger people's exploration and resolution of individual loneliness after COVID. At the same time, as Asian women studying in the United States, I also want to bring up people's attention to the group of Asian women.
